Sovereign’s Unity Conclave No. 406

On Saturday morning the 29th January 2022, a windy but thankfully dry day, the Intendant General of the Division, R.Ill.Kt. Graham Williams, joined members of the Division at Chorley for the Divisional KHS ceremony.

The meeting is hosted traditionally by Sovereigns Unity Conclave No 406, which is a Conclave of Sovereigns present and past. However, all members of the Division are encouraged to take an active part in the ceremonial.

We were privileged to have with us no less than three Past Intendants General, R.Ill.Kt’s. Brian Fairhust, GCC, Ken Shaw, KCC and Mike Walker.

Neil Cooper, Div Rec., Doug Fletcher MPS, James Upshon,
Graham William, Int. General, Alan O'Connor,
Victor Foulds & Stephen Gregory D.Int Gen.
The Red Cross meeting which was a business meeting was quickly discharged in the upstairs Lodge Room and following the closing the assembled knights moved down to the lower lodge room which was already set up for the first part of the three-part ceremony.

Three knights had been identified as being available as candidates, and each played the candidate in one of the three points, which were expertly conducted by V.Ill.Kt. Stephen Gregory, P.G.H.Chan, Dep. Int. General, Ill.Kt. Neil Cooper, P.G.Pref., Div. Rec., and R.Ill.Kt Graham Williams, Intendant General, each of whom were ably assisted by officers from the Conclave and Division.

The three knights who benefited from the demanding work described were, Victor Hudson Foulds of Ormskirk Conclave No 294, James Robin Upshon of Rose Hill Conclave No 298 and Alan O’Connor of Swinton Conclave No 355. They can not fail to have been impressed by the quality and sincerity of the ritual lavished upon them.

The Sepulchre Guard, under the command of Jason Nash, performed with the precision and expertise that we have come to expect of them and further enhanced the occasion.

Following the closing of the sanctuary, we all retired to the ballroom where we were treated to an ample repast befitting the occasion. Speeches were short, as was the toast list and in no time at all we were departing to all parts of the Division with that warm glow that always follows a good masonic gathering.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the organising Recorder, Edwin Schofield, who assisted by other Red Cross Knights from Chorley and the Conclave worked so hard to make everything go so well for us all.
